May The Furs Be With You

I just stumbled upon this photoshoot from the November 1977 Issue of Vogue Magazine featuring Jerry Hall, C3P0, Darth Vader, Jawas, Snaggletooth, and some Stormtroopers on Flickr

C3P0 fur coats Vogue Editorial 1977

Darth Vader fur coats Vogue Editorial 1977

Snaggletooth fur coats Vogue Editorial 1977

Stromtroopers, Jawa fur coats Vogue Editorial 1977

I especially enjoy the natural segues between the desciptions of the Star Wars characters and the fur the magazine is showcasing: "See Threepio, center, the Star Wars hero-robot with the 'flashy bronze finish' and that clipped British accent... and lots of glorious fur!..." or "And this page, one of the small, hooded Jawas... dealers in used metal like... robots... The easy glamour of a natural Russian golden sable overcoat...". Classic.

The "Force" of Fur

"On occasion, I have been called upon to perform unexpected functions in circumstances which would have appalled my designers" - See Threepio

On These 8 pages, all-out fur, all-out fantasy -- the Star Wars stars -- the ones you love (and love to hate!) And this year's star furs: the silky sumptuous long-hairs, the bigger shapes, the wonderful colorings. What they have in common -- record-breaking success!

Unexpected...very charming. See Threepio, center, the Star Wars hero-robot with the "flashy bronze finish" and that clipped British accent... and lots of glorious fur!...

Sable to crave. Fur Alert! -- natural Russian golden sable - all time luxury, warm pretty color and enough fur to wrap and wrap! About $30,000 ... Our fantasy friends from Star Wars, a Twentieth Century Fox presentation of a Lucasfilm production. Quotes from teh book Star Wars, by George Lucas (Ballentine)

"Don't play games with me..." -- Darth Vader, Star Wars's baddest bad guy.

The Star Wars villain, right -- "Two meters tall... flowing black robes... an awesome, threatening shape..." The heroines, our beautiful blondes. One of the most irresistable things about this year - color! Far left, pale honey beige fox with white ??? a beautiful new soft shade... a beautiful soft coat to slide into and wrap. By Maximillian, N.Y...

In a world of out of this world creatures, the snaggle-tooth monster, opposite. And this page, one of the small, hooded Jawas... dealers in used metal like... robots...

The easy glamour of a natural Russian golden sable overcoat, far left... the kind of bigger, cozier fur that goes with everything this year, Revillon at Saks Fith Avenue. $24,000... etc.

"Metal-encased shapes clustered around her..." -- The "humans in armor": Imperial Stormtroopers.

Star Wars bad guys! Below one of the hustling little Jawas. opposite: Imperial Stormtroopers...

A different kind of fox. opposite top left. thick fluffy camel dyed fox with knitted sleeves. Sweater casual... sensational. Pierre Cardin for Michael Forrest. .. Camel-dyed fox and hand knit wool. About $3,950. Lord & Taylor, Saks... Furs by Weiss Cleveland... etc.

"...a variety of beings... one eyed creatures and thousand eyed, creatures with scales, creatures with fur, and some with skin that seemed to ripple..." --Habitules of the Star Wars Cantina
